Farmhouse Sampler - Block 3 (Arkansas Traveler)
Let's finish out the top row of the Farmhouse Sampler quilt with today's block: the Arkansas Traveler. These spool-shaped blocks look complicated but they are actually a cinch! -
Farmhouse Sampler - Block 2 (Ribbon Quilt)
Block 2 of the Farmhouse Sampler quilt-along is live. Today, we're working on the Ribbon Quilt block. More HSTs (and a simple square). -
Farmhouse Sampler - Block 1 (Yankee Puzzle)
We're kicking off the Farmhouse Sampler quilt-along with Block 1 today: the Yankee Puzzle. This one is all HSTs, but don't fear: we have a fool-proof method for perfect HSTs. -
Join us for a Farmhouse Sampler quilt-along
Nine gorgeous blocks. Five weeks. One quilty finish.
Today, we're excited to announce our very own Farmhouse Sampler quilt-along. It's our first quilt pattern and it meshes our love of traditional quilt blocks with modern aesthetics. We hope you'll join us September 23 - October 28, 2019, as we share step-by-step tutorials and take you through making your very own Farmhouse Sampler quilt.
So what's the format?
Starting September 23, we'll share 2 block tutorials each week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. All the blocks feature basic construction techniques so this quilt is a fit for a variety of experience levels. Just bring supplies, a basic knowledge of piecing, and your A-game. ☺️
Here's what you're going to need:
- 1/2 yard each of 4 prints or solids (see our Farmhouse Sampler solids bundle)
- 2-1/2 yards of background fabric (we used FreeSpirit Designer Essentials solid in Mist)
- 1-1/2 yards of border fabric
- 4 yards backing fabric
- 1 yard binding fabric
- batting (minimum 69" x 69")
If you're somewhat new to quilting, make sure you have these things, too:
- sewing machine
- 45mm rotary cutter
- self-healing cutting mat
- scissors
- 50wt or 60wt cotton thread for piecing
- iron & ironing board
- seam ripper
- acrylic rulers (we recommend a 6-1/2" x 24" ruler and a 8-1/2" or 9-1/2" square ruler)
We hope you join us! Come back September 23rd for the first block tutorial.
In the meantime, gather your supplies and get your fabric ready. We have a handy coloring sheet for you to download here so you can play around with color options. If you love the colors you see in our quilt mockup, we have bundles in the shop available right now. Easy peasy.
We'll be sharing our progress over on Instagram and would love to connect with you there. If you're on Instagram, tag us @bloomeriefabrics and use #farmhousesamplerquilt to share your fabric pull or progress.
