DIY Halloween Wreath

Have I told you that I love Halloween?  Well, I do -- and recently I made a wreath for it using the uber-elegant Little Black Dress fabrics and a Moda Bella jelly roll.  Very black, grey, cream, and slightly "manor creepy" -- with its spiderweb-look ribbon, tulle bats, vintage-look brooches, sparkly skeleton, and All Hallows Eve calling card.

Want to make one of your own? Here's the gist (and no sewing machine is required):

  1. Using strips from your Moda Bella jelly roll in Snow, wrap the wreath base until it's completely covered. This gives it a finished look and also protects your door from scratches. (Anyone else just re-paint her front door? Don't want to mess that up!)
  2. Next, you'll want to add any ribbon trim to the wreath base. I found a cool black and cream striped ribbon in my stash and it was perfect for this one!
  3. Working with strips of Little Black Dress fabrics, start assembling your fabric flowers. I used a variety of techniques for these to give the wreath loads of interest. For some, I hand-basted the edges of the fabric strips loosely and pulled the threads to form a round flower shape. For others, I cut out flower shapes and layered them to create dimension.
  4. Attach the flowers to the wreath, using buttons and pins to secure them to the base.
  5. Finally, finish the wreath off with a light spray of adhesive and a generous sprinkling of glitter.

That's it! Customize it however you want with additional trims and baubles.

Feel free to leave comments below.  And if you're wondering who claimed the wreath... just ask Jess!

I love this too! I was going to make some Christmas wreaths with my fabric scraps and I found some $1 wreath forms in the Target dollar aisle! Now I have some direction on how to make them. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

This is beautiful. I love that there are no bats or eyes on it. It is elegant and beautiful.

So glad y’all like it! Definitely a great project for fabric scraps - and we also love that it doesn’t scream Halloween (which means I can keep it hanging up a little while longer). :)
